Sara and Elise are busily putting the final touches on our very first issue — scheduled to come out later this month! Our summer issue will feature incredible work by a mix of returning and new contributors. Meanwhile, we can’t wait to discover more new favorite essays for the Fall Issue. The deadline for fall submissions is July 20.
Since we started this project in 2017, we’ve worked with more than 70 writers on over 200 pieces. Contributors have been brand new to writing and seasoned professionals; people sharing their expertise and people using this space to experiment; teenagers, septuagenarians, and everything in between. We’d love to share this space with you too!
As we’ve grown and gotten to know our audience better, what we’re looking for has evolved. We’re still all about fashion, pop culture and social change, but our approach isn’t quite the same as it was in our first couple years. So, be sure to read our updated guidelines.
The submissions page will tell you everything you need to know about what we’re looking for and how to send us your work.
Still need inspiration?
Here are a couple of recent stories that really struck a chord with us and our readers:
The Problems & Potential of Loving Cottagecore as a Woman of Color by Anna J. Martinez
When Academia Tries to Defeat a Nerdy Femme by Yumi Pak
What We Hold On To by Justin Duyao
What hasn’t changed?
We’re still committed to paying writers and not charging submission or reading fees! Our new submission manager does have a tip jar, though 😉. If you have the means and want to support the work we do, we always appreciate it. Dismantle runs a hundred percent on Patreon and other small contributions. Every little bit helps keep the website lights on and the payments flowing back to writers!
