What sort of planet will future generations inherit? If we all make these changes to live more sustainably, Mother Earth has a much better chance.
The earth can use all the help it can get, and you can provide some of that much-needed relief. This responsibility does not rest with any one person; collective action is also necessary. But individual actions help change the collective mindset and guide our society toward an eco-focused political consciousness. Here are some changes you can make to live more sustainably.
Cut Paper Usage
As you’ve probably heard, manufacturers can’t make traditional paper without sacrificing trees and rainforests. To protect these marvels of nature, consider taking steps to reduce the paper in your life. Many stores have started offering electronic receipts sent straight to your email inbox, and the same is true for companies that, in the past, sent letters.
Adopt a Vegan Lifestyle
There’s no need to dive right into veganism if it seems too difficult at first, but taking small steps toward a vegan lifestyle is an excellent way to help the planet. Avoiding animal products means avoiding the companies that are responsible for incredible damage to the environment. The largest meat-processing company globally, JBS, emits half the carbon that oil companies do and is responsible for mass deforestation.
Switch to an Electric Car
When the time comes for a new car, consider going electric if you have the means. The initial cost is substantial, but the savings, both monetary and environmental, are monumental. Luckily for electric car owners, the U.S. government is making it easier to own one by installing charging stations across the country, per a recent infrastructure bill.
If you can’t afford an electric car, do what you can to cut back on driving. Ride your bike when you can, and think about opting for public transportation when the opportunity presents itself.
Make Wardrobe Changes
Even your closet can become more sustainable with some simple alterations. Consider changing your washing habits to reduce the amount of water you’re using, or donate any clothing you don’t wear much anymore. You can also learn some basic sewing techniques to reduce the new items you buy. Plus, you’ll be able to hold onto your favorite pair of jeans for longer!
These are simple changes you can make to live more sustainably. While there is always more work to be done, sometimes we need a reminder that the big work in the fight for a greener planet can be accompanied by small things we can do every day.
